Continuing the trans Atlantic cross fertilisation, here is some dope US hip hop from the Swedish Brandy label.
After appearing on the recent Chicken George EP, the Hydroponic Sound System get a six track EP to themselves to show their many talents. Kicking off with some pimped out blaxploitation funk breaks on 'Rays Bodega' (tasty bonus beats on this cut too) before dropping the tempo for 'Play The Role' and 'Distractions'. Flip over for a nice summery midtempo jazzy house groove (their nothing if not eclectic these Swedish Brandy 12s!) with a wicked live flute and the EP is rounded off with a late night trip hop style slow-mo instro hip hop thing. Quality. |
