After their "Bluesanova" and "Marvin & Stevie" EPs, 7 Samurai are rapidly becoming the name to watch out for on GAMM. Their third 12" of explosive edits and blends is no less monolithic than the previous two, with the added bonus of wider potential appeal. "Brothers" removes the slow soul intro to Willie Hutch's blaxpolitation classic "Brother's Gonna Work It Out" and replaces the with a solid 4/4 kick drum for maximum dancefloor reaction. The rest of the track is pretty respectful to the original, save for a few extended loops to prolong the ecstasy. "Marlies & Marcus" takes D'Angelo's super smooth "Brown Sugar" and performs a silky jazz-soul nip and tuck on it. |
