On the A-side, "World Outside" juices up a sleek, down tempo groove of broken beat, deep house, dub and jazz flavor. Deep bass lines, laid-back breaks, and crisp synth sweeps come together with a little abstract, jazz guitar and horns and a moment of deeply reverbed, non-lyrical, female vocals in a quality you don't often get from a debut effort. "Secret Vocab" turns up the dub vibe and backs it up with mellow, low-key breaks.
Flipping it over, the "Detour Mix" of "World Outside" delivers a minimal house style built on solid, 4/4 bass kicks, drifting synth pad loops, and a slow dubby bass line that are eventually met by distant, soulful female vocal cuts and a little abstract, jazz guitar. "World Inside" breaks it down with an ambient backdrop that's perfectly complemented by a dubby bassline, and clean breaks beats in a slightly spacey aesthetic.
...And what self-respecting wax junkie can resist the limited edition first pressing on translucent yellow vinyl? |
