Common and Kanye West seem to be a close to perfect combination when it comes to clobble oustanding Hip Hop music. It's not like some Lil' Jon, Neputnes, Timbo or Da Don production where, at a certain time, they were shifting the game with their music (or more likely the impact of their productions), it's, from the manufacture and handling to approach and vibe, just classic sample based Rap - like it didn't happen too much since the sampler took it's long and conquering path in Rap. Don't be fooled here for the tone. What makes this an instant favorite is that the formula doesn't sound outdated one second and the vibe is classic, simply meaning, it makes you nod your head and bump this shit loud out of your speakers, wherever you are. Boom Bap that DJ Premier couldn't have done better (talkin bout "the game") and to fill up the remiscent void, they simple got Premo to do the cuts.
Common might not be one of your top 5 emcees, from the fact that lyrically he never delivered something extraordinary. But then again, he's one of those emcees never tired of addressing the people, Hip Hop (the game), the world and all those issues we care about and carry around, with a language that even your mama can understand (and agree to!). That's why Hip Hop needs him. And as we need Hip Hop... Point noted? Good... |
