Richard “Groove” Holmes is a big part of the Southern New Jersey / Philadelphia entourage that created some of the best funk’n’soul organ jobs just above the Mason-Dixon line. Memorable are his organ battles with Jimmy Smith in the early 70s including 1972’s great American Pie – which takes its title from the beautifully covered anthem by Don McLean. |
