Although he was one of the pioneers of the jazz flute and remained one of its finest exponents, Sam Most did not have an opportunity to record as a leader after 1958 until this Catalyst session. The enjoyable LP also includes fine work from pianist George Muribus, bassist Putter Smith and drummer Will Bradley, Jr., although Most is easily the main star. He plays his cool-toned tenor on two tracks but it his flute that is most individual; check out his interpretation of "I've Grown Accustomed to Your Face" on this LP, if you can find it. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide |
