The third release in the Powerful Beacon series teams up former Cannibal Ox MC, and guest star MF Doom, with Ann Arbor native Tadd Mullinix, under his Dabrye alias. Tadd’s headnodding beats have been received with enthusiasm from both hip hop heads, and the indie-hipster underground with a series of releases on Scott Herren’s (Prefuse 73) Eastern Developments, and the Ghostly International label.
These verses, which appeared on Vast’s “Look Mom... No Hands” album, are placed in an entirely new context, as is the mission of the Powerful Beacon project.
The project outline:
This is an ingenuity project of reintroducing the hip hop classics by remixing the sound by several dope producers from all over the world. The label will be cutting every song into single 7inch vinyl and it contains both vocal & instrumental respectively. It will eventually be compiled into a CD album (entitled “The Powerful Beacon”) after the release of 10 titles and looking to complete by early 2009. Past releases in the series include MF Doom’s (under his Viktor Vaughn alias) “Raedawn” remixed by Kaman Leung, and O.C’s all time classic “Time’s Up” remixed by Samon Kawamura.
The concept of Powerful Beacon:
It is a creation of the power that comes from the chemistry of artist combination chosen by the label. We believe that all of the power we created for this project is meant to be the beacons to arouse a controversy for next generation of universal hip hop music creativity.
