On Yazz, renowned percussonist Emil Richards (who worked with George Shearing, Frank Sinatra, Nelson Riddle, and Judy Garland –to name but a few) creates a beautifully Latin charged, Afro-Cuban sound with other notable players. Musicians include Al Mckibbon on bass (who played and recorded with Thelonious Monk, Charlie Paker and Cal Tjader), Paul Moer on piano (responsible for the moody keys on his Stan Getz recordings), and Francisco Aquabella on conga (knows the deep African feel through his collaborations with Tito Puente, Perez Prado, Rene Bloch...). A truly unique, wonderful album that is a classic from the ORIGINAL Exotica era.
