Following 08's electrifying 'Dirtbox' E.P, trading under 313 has proved rather productive for Mark Pritchard. A consummate distillation of all things bass, 'When Humans...' pushes and pulls its way through classic analogue synthesis and intricate digi-programming.
Flecks of blue-note melancholia siphon through the dirtbox basslines, especially on 'Koln' -Berlin district where Bowie famously cut 'Low'- elsewhere Pritchard drops some mega-heavy breaks edging closer to detroit hip-hop than german electronica; MC's Phat Kat and Elzhi turn out mean verse on 'Battlestar' and Steve Spacek rolls out a ghostly-vox on the blue-note digi-R&B of 'Falling Away.
