Parisian bump hopping electro synth magician Debruit joins the Civil Music stable, bringing with him a chopped and screwed pedigree of two sensational EPs on Musique Large. Described as “a holds barred assault through dark Congolese sound systems, downtown L.A. block parties gone wrong, haze filled Kingston recording studios and freaky Tunisian backstreet souks, all powered by a fat hip hop engine - the heaviest wonky fusions heard this year”, Debriut has the press tripping over their thesauruses with his trademark synths pushing the boundaries with new techniques and analogue vibes. In a Congolese basement bar down a Paris side-street is where you’ll normally find Debruit dropping beats, and with his hip-house alter ego KeeClac remixing Architeq, Kotchy, Meanest Man Contest and Fischerspooner, the man is all set to dominate the summer airspace. On ‘I’m Goin’ Wit You’, Debruit’s heavy wonky synth lead madness funks out on the West Coast with guest vocals from Sa_ra’s Om’Mas Keith and Jamie Woon, with a production style awash in perfectly looping and wobbling freewheeling synthlines. Angular beats chop and wild bass and left coast vibes spill over everywhere. Blunted B-Boy keys, soulful vocal harmonies, killer hooks and candy floss raps make for a seductive and playful summer block party jam for the mind. Meanwhile, on ‘Soles Sweat’, West Coast MCs Cerebral Vortex and Buddy Leezle (aka 215 The Freshest Kids) remind allcomers that hip hop is about partying, the ladies, and most of all having a dope sneaker collection. With smooth flows they low ride Debruit’s spongey sub-bass-heavy wobble and lo-slung beats and add that Californian sunshine, plus 80s old skool electro hip house vibes with all the D’s on it from Drexciya and Dilla to Sunny.
