It's a spaghetti western double-header, with two incredible dusty gems, on the Soul Galore label. Originally penned, of course, by the legendary Ennio Morricone, both tracks have seen many cover versions and make-overs since the original scores were released (in 1965 & 1966 respectively), but few are as funky yet relatively unheard as what we have here. Firstly the hopelessly obscure U.K outfit Goldrush deliver a synth-heavy, percussive monster version of 'For a Few Dollars More', complete with a b-boy breakdown which begs for some deck-to-deck action (dig out those 45 adapters!). This one stands alongside the mother-of-all b-boy jams, 'Apache' - don't sleep on this! On the flip is reggaefied-funk from the Philippines, with veteran keyboardist Relly Coloma's take on Morricone's 'The Good, The Bad & The Ugly, with tight, skanking drums and some mean organ and guitar work. |
