The theme in Mystic Voyage overcame Buddy Sativa for days on end, but his imaginary version, in true swing style, featured a big band with bright brass and a heavy rhythm section. Here's the result, a rich true jazz tribute that he hopes the Master will enjoy - Gilles Peterson certainly does, having featured the track on his Worldwide show on Radio BBC1 in February. To Buddy Sativa, a Roy Ayers cover was more than an obvious choice - not only a mark of respect to the great musician, whose music was so essential to the development of his own, it was also a true revelation.
