The Captives’ debut single “Right On” released on Element Records is a superb addition to any collector of vinyl, especially if you like a little reggae in your collection! The band, based out of roots music heartland that is Gainsville, FL, recorded and engineered their music at their guitarists’s analog 16 track home studio, Verticle Bird.

As soon as you drop the needle on this record and hear the opening guitar riffs and full band stabs you’ll soon be taken into a sweet and soulfull reggae styled bliss. A sweet horn section melody kick off before the vocals. Fat bass and drums guide the track, while skankin’ plukin’, and even twangy guitars are scattered throughout the track. A tasteful saloon style piano is matched by a chill organ, all held down by the almighty tambourine! The Captives have successfully taken a popular phrase, “Right On,” and turned it into something hip and cool for 45rpm lovers.

The B Side, “Lift Me Up,” is a dub style groove filled with lush echo and reverb treatments. The unique slide guitar helps the vocals reach their peak, as they have already proven to do on “Right On.”
