2011 looks set to be a big year for Lurka. Following the storming success of his debut 'Tempted' on Black Box, he has cooked up something rather special for Box Clever. 'Return' sees Lurka on a deep, tribal tip, building the tune around the solid kick/sub foundation as he slowly adds elements to the mix. First the hats and swooping white noise, next the dark incidental FX, then retro edits and filtered breaks - a heady combination that leaves the listener transfixed. Lurka keeps the mood meditational with 'Stabiliser', layering tight percussion lines to produce effortless movement. Crisp handclap beats are swarmed by shakers, finger-snaps, and loping bongo-riffs in a masterclass of drumwork execution. |
