Hulk Hodn and Hubert Daviz aren't new faces to the flourishing beatmaker/producer scene. Along with his partner Retrogott, DJ and producer Hulk Hodn redefined German HipHop with their combo „Huss und Hodn“ and the releases of their successful albums „Jetzt Schaemst Du Dich“ and „Der Stoff, Aus Dem Die Regenschirme Sind“. Their fresh approach created a new German HipHop subgenre that has a large number of new upcoming groups following their sonic footsteps ever since. Together with Twit Uno, Hulk Hodn started the beatcraze with their instrumental project „Testiculo Y Uno“
Hubert Daviz produced well-received tracks for „Huss und Hodn“ and released his successful instrumental debut „Proceduri de Rutina“ in 2010.
Now, the two friends joined forces and put together an album called „Kaseta“. On the album, you will find 23 tracks with hypnotizing HipHop boom-bap-patterns, along with elaborated, multileveled sound collages.
In the beginning, this project was planned as a simple beat tape only. But the quality of the recordings convinced the label „entbs“ to give this piece of music a release on double vinyl. In order to keep the original „tape concept“, entbs pushed this thought even further and chose to use analog processing stages during the mastering process whenever possible. Instead of using cd´r or other digital storages, the master for „kaseta“ was printed on 1/4“ tape, using an analogue mastering grade reel to reel machine (AEG/Telefunken m20). These mastertapes were used to cut the laquers, which are necessary for vinyl mass reproduction. This final - purely analog - transfer from the mastertapes to the cutting lathe (Neumann VMS 80) was possible only due to our friends at SST Brueggemann. They are one of very few cutting facilities still in existence using playback tapemachines with additional prelistening repro heads, which are necessary for this process. at entbs...vinyl is alive...and so is tape... |
