Often credited as the father of New Orleans Rhythm & Blues, Professor Longhair is considered one of the most characteristic piano talents to come out of Louisiana. His hybrid “rumba-boogie” piano style, with a heavy, pounding left hand, forever changed the sound of rhythm and blues piano. In the words of Dr. John himself: “All New Orleans pianists today owe ‘Fess’. He was the guru, godfather, and spiritual doctor of all that came under him”.
