If you open your EP with one of the most coked up monologues from one of the most coked up movies of all time, you're sending out a clear message; You're a total badass with a good knowledge of Brian De Palma / Al Pacino collaborations. Oh, and you mean business. The latter of which we already knew about old Delroy, but he's here to hammer that point home with a red lining kick drum and a mass of tape distortion. "Kickin Butts!!" sees the producer delivering the kind of dislocated body music we're used to hearing Levon Vincent put out, but with that unmistakable Delroy Edwards aesthetic. Stripped back to the bare essentials, this club weapon pairs heat treated percussion with a bubbling machine funk bassline, while a mournful synth arches overhead. Next up, "Die Motherfucker" brings the drama to you and yo momma as Mr Edwards gets into "Slowed Down Funk" territory with a horrorcore bassline, scuffed drum beat and aggro vocal sampling a plenty. Shit gets mighty psychedelic on the B-side, as Delroy filters a couple of perc tracks through your peyote addled consciousness, resulting in a duo of pulsing, flanging DJ tools. |
