It’s been 3 years since Kansas City’s soul-jazz powerhouse has released a 45, but Chris Hazelton’s Boogaloo 7 are back with this 2-part radio edit of the title track to their upcoming LP, The Basement Beat. Part 1 features the whole band grooving on the theme, followed by a blistering baritone sax solo. On the flip, Part 2 dives straight in to a screaming organ solo by Hazelton on the Hammond B-3, followed by the band sweeping back in with the theme to wrap things up. This single sits right in the pocket from the very first note, driving like a 68 Impala, but keeping it cool like a basement in the summertime. |
