After 2 independent releases and an under the radar Chocolate Industries album, Montreal-based Ghislain Poirier is back with more bullets for a second Chocolate round. GP falls into the tech-nerd brand of hip-hop-electronica and he's picked the perfect mc compliment in Beans (formerly of Anti-Pop) for "Cold As Hell" Burpy production seems to be all the rage these day for this sub-genus. "Don't Smile It's Postmodern" is the most compelling track here, with Neptunes style boom claps and all sorts of synthetic fibers woven in (actually sounds like a remix for "Grindin"). The selection is rounded out by "La Blessure" a moody piece that’s no doubt a product of gloomy Montreal days. |
