Misel Quitno's "Sleep Over Pieces Vol. 1" was an experiment in recreating retro-sounding electronic / lo-fi music, recorded under the use of a 4-track tape machine and any cheap instrument or object that can make a half-way decent sound. To then have other people sampling bits off the finished vinyl, was part of completing the concept – and, finally, here is some of its outcome:
A1 - Im Halbhohen Gras (Caural Remix)
To have chicago-native Zachary Mastoon aka Caural on this record is an honour. The super-relaxed electronic swing-beat-ditty he turned 'Im Halbhohen Gras' into, is merely a hint at this man's excellent catalogue of highly influential records released on labels like Chocolate Industries or Mush records.
A2 - Pull It Out Somewhen (Dimlite's the Helmut Grokenberger of this Remix)
Dimlite quasi remixed himself. Dimlite is Switzerland's shining talent when it comes to electronic beat-smiths. With an irresistible hand for beautiful harmonies chunked out of sampled records and noises and played instruments, this piece of thumping Grokenberger-beat-ism is mind-bogglingly catchy.
A3 - Get Up It's Crumbling Day (J. Sayne's Dub)
Ish records' very own J. Sayne is a passionate record digger and MPC fiend. His records on the label resemble very skillfully woven sonic pictures (if pictures had the ability to stomp things into the ground with dirty oomph that is), his string is made of dusty and crackly finds from across the planet. What he did to Misel Quitno has the potential to polarize listeners, but we will so play this shit out and stare at you.
B1 - A Fancy Friendship (Ritornell Remix)
Ritornell is an austrian duo consisting of Richard Eigner, a drummer, composer and sound-artist, and Roman Gerold, jazz pianist and composer. Together they have released their debut album 'Golden Solitude' on Karaoke Kalk earlier this year.. it should be filed under 'supersonic electroacoustic excellence.' Eigner took the freedom to remix 'A Fancy Friendship' on his own, but invited a bunch of musicians to rip the tune out of its original studio-murk and transplanted the tubas into his own airy, somewhat jazzy version of an imaginary film score. Richard claims that the drums on this remix aren't actually drums, but swine-flus, made of tropical wood.
B2 - We're Both Waiting (Dorian Concept Remix)
"The Microkorg-guy on youtube!" – over the last 2 years austrian Dorian Concept has been making big waves taking musicianship into an electronic club context, simply by playing the crap out of this cheap little synthesizer like a genious madman, on top of his banging and moody productions somewhere between e-bap and 5-step. He didn't leave much of the Quitno original and turned 'We're Both Waiting' into a meandering, meditative stream of liquid future-slop.
