Spanky Wilson comes from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and sang with Jimmy McGriff's Organ group before being taken under the wing of producer H.B. Barnum. She recorded three albums for his label Mothers records & The Snarf Company of which "Doin' It" has become one of the most sought after. Originally released in 1969 this album is a great example of late 60’s Soul and has been in demand for many years, Mint copies now sell for £150 - £200. This 180gm edition is the first official reissue of the album on Vinyl. The album includes the popular funky powerhouse cut ‘You’ a killer Sista funk groove with a fat drum beat. Spanky’s funky version of Cream’s ‘Sunshine of your love’ has been sampled many times, as has the intro of ‘Who’s Sorry Now’, used recently by Bahama Soul Club. ‘Loveland’ and ‘That Love a woman should give to a man’ are great mid tempo Soul cuts. |
