Starone is a Swiss producer mostly known as Stern Eis. He has be pivotal to Zürich's HipHop scene in the midnineties, combining his soulful productions with young talents from around town (some of which are quite big in Switzerland these days).
Starone is focusing on doing something Dilla did with Donuts and Madlib with his Beat Konducta alter-ego on 6 volumes by now. Looping and chopping up your favorite records from the past, meaning Soul & Funk records, and adding some spice in form of drums and vocal samples. It's not a masterpiece in terms of production values and techniques. It actually sounds like a very elaborated and well put together mix-tape of beautiful samples of good old soul music. A collage, thus mosaic, of excerpts and musical parts of all kinds of soul music, film dialogues and HipHop ephemera. Just a good companion on your i-pod everyday and for every journey.
