Celebrating a year since the release of Flamagra, Flying Lotus presents Flamagra (Instrumentals). Hearing the album without the feature vocalists really shines a spotlight on the psychedelic deep soul arrangements and master musicians that helped shape the album.
It brings Stephen Ellison, Stephen Bruner, Miguel Atwood Ferguson, Brandon Coleman, Herbie Hancock, Deantoni Parks, Dennis Hamm, Taylor Graves and others to the foreground in an intimate and transcendent listening experience for fans.
From a promo perspective, we should not prioritise interviews/features with Lotus on this Instrumentals album. Rather it should be a retail and fan-driven campaign. To this end, it is important that the physical product itself looks exciting and has its own viral potential to excite fans and retail.
This will be the second time that we have released an official Instrumentals version of a Lotus studio album. The You’re Dead! 4LP limited edition box featured an instrumentals version of the album exclusive to the box at that time on release of that record. Digitals followed on the first year anniversary.
Flamagra remains one of the biggest streaming Warp albums, consistently doing over half a million streams a week. The Instrumentals campaign is an opportunity to drive sales and streams of the album alongside the new material.
Flying Lotus is also working on the new studio album which is pencilled for a late 2020 release.
