Ok, this young fellow from Los Angeles has been hyped for quite a moment now. And after releasing two stunning EPs, anticipations for his full lenght debut were rising high. But with so many hypes, the actual product in the end can't top it's preceded expectations built from mouth-watering and praising talks in magazines both online and physical.
Not in this case it is. Flying Lotus exceeds these anticipations. After a short intro of crackling synth waves, he laces the album with a stubborn stomper placed around a beautiful filtered vocal harmony, accomplished by heavy basslines. And this is the program. Ingenious rhythmic complexity, thick sizzling basslines and crackling spheric sounds. Maybe in a field where Dabrye is a master, Flying Lotus is the TRUCK. Because as refined his beats may be, they roll heavy like a truck. It's the vibe that kills you through out the whole album. It's the perfect combination of nerdy equipment jerking and plain grooves and vibes. That's why "Los Angeles" is so visionary and brainfreezing at the same time. Kills everything with a groove.... |
